Everything you need to know about Repétude

General

Repétude is a guitar practice companion app for iOS designed to help musicians practice more effectively. It combines a professional-grade metronome, backing track support, exercise management, and practice logging into one streamlined app.

Repétude is perfect for guitarists of all skill levels who want to structure their practice, track their progress, and improve their timing. Whether you're a beginner learning scales or an advanced player working on complex techniques, Repétude helps you practice smarter.

Not at all! While the app is focused on guitar (because I'm a guitarist myself), it works great for any instrument that benefits from metronome-based practice—piano, drums, bass, violin, you name it. If you'd like me to add features for your instrument, reach out at support@repetude.com and I'd be happy to help make it more multi-instrument friendly.

Currently, Repétude is available exclusively for iOS (iPhone and iPad). An Android version may be considered in the future.

No. Everything works offline. Your data syncs via iCloud when you're back online.

Exercises & Routines

Tap the Exercises tab, then tap the "+" button to create a new exercise. You can set a name, current BPM, target BPM, category, musical key, and add notes. You can also attach PDFs (sheet music) and backing tracks.

An exercise is a single practice item (e.g., "Chromatic Scale" or "Pentatonic Lick"). A routine is a structured sequence of exercises with timed durations and breaks—like a workout plan for your practice session.

Yes! Routines support:

• Short breaks between every exercise

• Long breaks after every N exercises (e.g., a 5-minute break every 3 exercises)

• Custom durations per exercise

Rotation Sets let you practice different elements of an exercise systematically. For example, a finger independence exercise might have a Rotation Set with elements for finger pairs 1+2, 2+3, 3+4, etc. You can choose a Rotation Mode:

• Within a session — cycle through all elements

• On Completion — move to the next element after completing the exercise

• Random — random selection each session

Metronome

Repétude uses a professional low-latency audio engine with sample-accurate scheduling. Unlike timer-based metronomes that can drift, the metronome maintains precise timing throughout your practice session.

The metronome supports common time signatures including 4/4, 3/4, 2/4, and others. You can also customize accent patterns (e.g., accent only beat 1).

Yes! The metronome supports whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, eighth notes, sixteenth notes, and triplets.

This advanced practice mode plays the metronome for a set number of bars, then goes silent for another number of bars. It trains your internal timing—you keep playing during the silent bars and the metronome returns to check if you stayed in time.

Backing Tracks

Yes! You can attach backing tracks to any exercise. The app supports the same track at different BPM variants.

Yes, you can configure a count-in (number of beats) before the backing track begins playing.

Practice Sessions

There are several ways:

• Single exercise — tap an exercise and start practicing

• Routine — start a routine to practice multiple exercises in sequence

• Free practice — jump straight into practicing something new, then save it as an exercise afterwards if you like it

Yes! Repétude has a built-in recording feature. Recordings are attached to your practice logs so you can listen back and track your improvement over time.

This feature encourages you to practice scales and exercises in different keys—not just A minor! Each day, a new key is suggested to help you become comfortable in all keys. You can choose rotation modes:

• Cycle — C, C#, D, Eb... in order

• Circle of Fifths — C, G, D, A, E... following music theory

• Random — random keys without repeating

Tuner

Yes! The app includes a real-time guitar tuner that displays the note, frequency, octave, and whether you're sharp or flat. It also supports reference tone playback for each string and preset tunings.

Statistics & Progress

Every practice session is automatically logged with:

• Exercise name and BPM

• Duration

• Your focus area (e.g., Speed, Timing, Accuracy, or Expression)

• Notes you add

• Musical key and rotation element practiced

• Date and time

The Statistics tab shows:

• Practice streaks — current and longest streak

• Weekly activity — days practiced this week

• BPM progress — how your speed has improved over time

• Practice time charts — when and how long you practice

• Activity heatmap — calendar view of your practice history

• Insights — personalized observations about your practice habits

The free version includes basic streak and weekly activity tracking. Full statistics dashboard with BPM progress charts, daily practice visualization, insights, and activity heatmaps are available with Repétude Pro.

Data & Backup

Yes! Repétude supports iCloud backup. When enabled, your data is automatically backed up once every 24 hours. You can also trigger a manual backup anytime from Settings.

Yes. When you install Repétude on a new device, the app detects your iCloud backup and offers to restore your exercises, routines, and practice history.

Repétude uses a manual backup/restore approach rather than automatic sync. This is more reliable and gives you control over when your data is backed up and restored.

PDF & Sheet Music

Yes! You can attach PDF files (sheet music, tablature, chord charts) to any exercise. The built-in PDF viewer supports zooming, panning, and remembers your page position.

Troubleshooting

If you see a database error, Repétude has recovery options:

• Check if you have an iCloud backup available

• Use the restore option to recover your data

• Contact support@repetude.com if you need assistance

Here are some things to check:

• Make sure you're not using Bluetooth headphones (they add latency)

• Use wired headphones or your device speaker for best results

• Check that no other audio apps are running in the background

Privacy

Your exercises, routines, and practice logs are stored locally on your device and in your personal iCloud (if backup is enabled). I don't have access to your practice data. In the future, I plan to add anonymized analytics and diagnostics to help improve the app.
